Who Makes Cultural Heritage Online
The people and the process behind a heritage archive published continuously since 1998.
Editor & Publisher
Luigi De Marchi
Luigi De Marchi, architect and digital project manager, founded the archive in 1998 as beniculturalionline.it, an Italian editorial index of cultural heritage, and has published it without interruption since. He directs the catalogue, the magazine and the partnership programmes, and is responsible for everything Cultural Heritage Online publishes. The publication is operated by OASIS Tech LLC (see Ownership & Funding).
Managing Editor
Carla Szathvary
Carla Szathvary manages partnerships, media relations and editorial coordination. A collaborator of the archive for two decades, she writes on Italian Liberty and Art Nouveau.
The editorial desk
Articles signed Cultural Heritage Online are produced by the editorial desk under the direction of the editor & publisher, who reviews and answers for every piece. Research, sourcing and verification follow the published Editorial Guidelines: every publishable claim of fact is checked against primary or authoritative secondary sources, and place records carry verified GPS coordinates. Errors are handled under the Corrections Policy.
Contributing writers
Andrea Manzo
Andrea Manzo is a journalist who writes on the lesser-known places of Venice — the churches, courtyards and workshops the crowds walk past.
Writers publish here under their own byline. The writer track is open: three published articles bring recognition, professional tools and priority on paid assignments.
Contributors to the archive
Writers who have contributed to the archive over the years, in Italian and in English. Their work is being brought forward into Cultural Heritage Online under their own names.
Photography
Stefano Vigolo
Stefano Vigolo photographs and documents Italian architecture of the interwar decades — the years known in Italy as the Ventennio — from Rationalism and Art Déco to the buildings that fall between the guidebooks. A researcher of the period, his name appears on the place records he has documented for the archive.
Photography is credited on each image. The archive publishes work by contributing photographers alongside openly licensed images from Wikimedia Commons, always with author and licence attribution. It does not use images whose licence does not permit reuse. Photographers can publish and sell their work through the photographer programme.
Community contributors
Heritage venues, local historians and enthusiasts contribute places, photographs and event listings through the CHO Ambassador programme. Community contributions are reviewed by the editorial desk before publication and credited by name where they appear. The collaboration tracks for photographers, writers and operators are described on Work with us.
Guest authors
Cultural operators and institutions occasionally publish under the guest article programme. Guest pieces are labelled as such, carry the author’s byline, and are accepted only if they meet the Editorial Guidelines.
In memoriam
Dr. Lorenzo Antonio Renzulli
Dr. Lorenzo Antonio Renzulli, journalist and art critic, was a partner of this archive for many years and wrote on art, design and culture. He died in 2026. Cultural Heritage Online continues to publish his work in his memory, under his own byline.
